Amazon Smart Plug Review

Amazon has thrown their hat in the ring of competing smart plugs with their own; aptly named Amazon Smart Plug. The Amazon Smart Plug doesn’t require any extra apps, it uses the Alexa app for setting up. This plug has a small profile and a seemingly strong build quality. Unfortunately, I had issues getting this device to connect to some WIFI networks. It worked okay on my UniFi network, but would not connect to my aunt’s Google WIFI home network. It is also more expensive than most other smart plugs. The Amazon Smart Plug is automatically integrated with Alexa, but will not integrate with Home Assistant systems. It is proprietary to Amazon’s system only and does not support local control. For many of these reasons, I would NOT recommend the Amazon Smart Plug.

Factory Reset the Amazon Smart Plug

To factory reset your Amazon Smart Plug, press and hold the button on the plug for 12 seconds.

Conclusion

While this device seems like a great option for someone who uses Alexa, it did not end up being as user friendly as it indicated. It could frustrate less tech savvy people, if they can’t get it to connect to their home WIFI. Anyone who wants more options in their smart home, beyond Amazon’s Alexa ecosystem, should stay away and grab a different smart plug.
